full-bodied & aromatic and all the way to unctuous and sweet...

In many ways, Alsace sits apart from the other great wine regions of France. Nestled in the shadow of the Vosges mountains and heavily influenced by their Germanic neighbours, winemakers here focus on the so-called “noble” varieties of Riesling, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc and Gewurztraminer along with a smattering of Pinot Noir.
The wines range in style from light, mineral and clean through full-bodied oily and aromatic and all the way to unctuous and sweet in the case of the late harvest Vendange Tardive and Sélection de Grains Nobles dessert wines. Domaines Trimbach and Humbrecht are well established and still making some of the regions top wines, but smaller producers like Albert Boxler, Mittnacht Freres and L’Agape are gaining ground and deserve serious attention.
