The vineyards of Burgundy are surely the brightest stars shining in the oenological sky – Chambertin, Montrachet, Romanée-Conti, La Tâche, Echezeaux and Corton-Charlemagne make even the most experienced tasters weak at the knees in anticipation. Alongside a stunning array of Grand Crus, Burgundy offers hundreds of Premier Cru and Village level wines that give wine lovers the chance to embrace the magic of the region’s two-star grapes, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
Despite being dominated by single varietal wines, Burgundy boasts a great deal of diversity; terroir really has the opportunity to shine here, with different soil types and aspects of individual vineyards dramatically impacting the quality of the final wine. Gamay and Aligote play a lesser role in the region, with increasing interest in the crus of Beaujolais and Bourgogne Aligote in recent years.
