The longest river in France is also home to some of its greatest wineries. The clean, elegant whites of Pouilly-Fumé and Sancerre are well known, as are the fruit-forward, food-friendly whites of Vouvray. Saumur-Champigny and Chinon produce ethereal reds reminiscent of great Burgundies while the finest sweet wines of Coteaux de Layon and Bonnezeux offer the same hedonistic pleasure as anything.

Loire is a massive region, stretching from the Atlantic coastline to the centre of France, posing a challenge to defining a singular style that summarises the Loire Valley. Often referred to as the “heart” of France for its quality wine, stunning landscape and elegant chateaux, the Loire Valley’s seven sub-regions together have earned the region the honour of being added to the UNESCO World Heritage list in 2000.
